Does my baby need immunisations before taking him/her swimming?
The NHS website www.immunisation.nhs.uk stipulates that you can take your baby swimming at any time. Please visit the website or talk to your Health Visitor if you have any concerns.
What Swimwear is required?
All babies must wear a well fitted swim nappy as well as an over nappy (usually made of neoprene) and ensure that this is a snug fit. We also recommend a baby wetsuit in order to keep baby warmer for longer in the water, although these are not essential.
How Old Does My Baby Need To Be?
Babies can start from 8 weeks old up to 3 years.
What should I bring to the class?
All babies must wear a well fitted swim nappy as well as an over nappy (usually made of neoprene) and ensure that this is a snug fit. At least one towel, as this can be taken onto poolside. Hooded towels are always very handy as this will keep baby warm. We also recommend a baby wetsuit in order to keep baby warmer for longer in the water, although this is not essential. A drink and or snack for baby after the session. (Please note that we do not allow food in the changing rooms or on poolside in order to comply with health and safety regulations). * You should leave a minimum of one hour after a feed before baby goes swimming.
Can my baby swim if they have been unwell?
Babies should not swim if they have a cold, eye or ear infections, a temperature or any contagious illness. If in doubt always contact your GP for advice.
